Day Job:
Turing commonly works as a computer repairman and unofficial deck-
builder at MFLOP, the computer store of Guru Meditation. As Guru
Meditation owns the flat where Turing lives, Guru Meditation pays
Turing for his work by letting him stay in the flat for free. Guru
Meditation sometimes accepts custom orders for decks, and often lets
Turing work on them, thereby freeing up Guru Meditation for other
work in and around the shop, both Matrix and RL.
The Toon Squad:
The Toon Squad is the arch-enemy of the Scientists, the Matrix
"gang" that Turing is a part of. Members of Toon Squad (or Toonsters,
as they prefer to call themselves), always use a comic-book look
on their utilities and their personas. Current leader is CyberDuck
MM, modeled after the great comic book hero "Donald Duck", known from
the 20th Century. Toonsters have a tendency to prefer 20th Century
imagery, often from old Tex Avery films or other classics, to that
of Renraku-Samurai, and the other corporate comic book heroes.
The Scientists:
Turing is a member of the Scientists, one of the more elite Matrix
gangs around. The Scientists all have taken their names and on-grid
personas from various scientists and mathematicians, often known for
their work in the computer sciences. It is rumored that the leader
of the Scientists, Babbage-2, is from Echo Mirage. Babbage-2 will
not discuss this, and has a habit of crashing anyone too nosy about
his person. Other members of the Scientists are among others
MirrorGibson (famous for his creative fiction, where he helped
shape the Matrix), TurboPascal, SilverADA, Cobol, Eeeeinstein
and PlusBasic. The Scientists are very "hacker"-oriented, and they
usually know what's going on in the world of computers. The members
are also expected to swap programs with any other member of the
gang, but can of course charge nuyen or demand favours in such
transactions.
Green Goblin Goon Guys:
The GGGG (or G4 is a
gang of not very nice persons. To say the least. Mainly stationed
in Redmond, the GGGG is a predominantly metahuman gang (trolls and
orks mostly) constantly looking for fights. One of their subchiefs,
going by the name of Rondo, was once beaten by Turing when Turing
tried to run through GGGG turf after his cab was demolished by an
anti-vehicle missile while Turing was trying to get to a meet. Rondo
was looking for trouble, and attacked Turing without warning when
Turing ran by. Although Turing was allowed to get away after badly
brutalizing Rondo, Rondo later claimed Turing had been using dirty
tricks, particularly the pair of stun gloves Turing used (staring
down any gangers pointing out that Rondo had been using a knuckle-
knife in that particular fight), and got the big man's approval on
calling a hunt on Turing. Needless to say, Turing hasn't been a big
fan of the GGGG since, and has had to occasionally defend himself
from GGGG attacks.
Compulsion (Reluctance to Kill):
Turing is reluctant to kill, and usually tries to talk his way out
of trouble before resorting to violence. Though by no means a
pacifist, Turing has sometimes been mistaken for one.
Compulsion (Irrational Hatred of Insects):
After a little trip to Bug City (then Chicago), Turing hasn't been
very fond of insects. In any form, hairy or not, large or not. As a
result, Turing relishes killing bugs, spirit or no spirit, and is
seldom found without at least one kind of pesticide on him.
Unfortunately, his narcojet pistol with pesticide-loaded darts didn't
make it out of Chicago, and Turing is trying to find another to
replace it. It is proving more difficult than he thought.
