Pankration

History: 

Pankration is from ancient Greece. Translated, the word means all-powerful - and the style is generally noted as being pretty hard. Pankration is a rough and tumble sport where dirty tricks and ugly moves are seen as the order of the day.

It is a predecessor to graeco-roman wrestling, and can be seen as that, as long as one add some kicks, punches and eye gouges, and other general dirty tricks. For a pankration-wrestler there is, to put it simply, no grab, punch, kick or otherwise which is too dishonorable to be used.

This maneuver is regarded as one of the ultimate dirty tricks ever invented. Pankration is, of course, one of the styles that teach this technique as a matter of course - it is, after all, extremely effective.

For those who have not already understood what this maneuver is, the description is as follows: The Fighter grabs his opponent, pulls the opponent next to himself, and knees him in the groin. This is incredibly painful, and has the following effects: Automatic dizzy (if male - or used to be), -1 penalty (we do use some house rules) over and above any others (if male). If the Pankration wrestler uses this technique on a woman, the damage bonus is a mere +3, and no special effects are inflicted. The damage is calculated from Kick technique, even though this is a Grab maneuver.

This maneuver costs the practitioner 1 permanent Honor if used. At all.

Schools: 

It is not particularly difficult to find schools teaching Pankration - provided one looks for them in Greece. This style is particular to Greece, and is not normally taught any other place. There are no formal schools that teach Pankration, so the only way to be taught this style is to find a "Master" willing to train the applicant in the style. It is probably not necessary to mention that these "Masters" are, with no exception, on the Path of Glory; would-be Pankration wrestlers be warned.

Gregory Oudipolous, a Master of Pankration: 

Gregory is the toughest of the tough in Athens - just ask him. And if you don't believe him, Gregory will be more than happy to demonstrate exactly how tough he is. And if he is in a particularly good mood, he might even call a cab for you so that you do not have to walk to the Hospital.

Gregory is a huge Greek, with a face only a mother could love - provided she was blind, of course. He moves astonishingly easily and quickly for being such a huge man, and this should be an instant warning for all would-be challengers. Gregory is about 30 years old, and tempered in innumerable street brawls. Being 1.90m tall with a matching shoulderwidth, and a body full of scars after brawls, Gregory is not a nobody easily disregarded.

Gregory's nose is of course broken time and again, and wasn't beautiful even in the beginning. His ears haven't had their original form in many, many years, and his scalp is, of course, crew-cut short. No opponent will have anything to grab there. Gregory has a long, nasty scar down the left side of his face from the time where a brawler came with some pointed arguments concerning a broken bottle in a "honest" bar-braw. The police has not found all the parts of the would-be bottler - yet.

The Greek police has a record on Gregory longer than him, even when he stands on his toes - but in some way or other Gregory has always slipped out of trouble with the law lately. The truth is that he has gotten some new friends - friends with influence. These friends have begun matching Gregory in fights versus all kinds of freaks, but as long as they pay ouzo and babes for Gregory, he couldn't care less.
