He moves with grace and speed which defy his large form and will generally prefer the shadows and corners to open spaces. He will almost never stand still, nervously watching his surroundings for any hint of movement. As he moves you can hear a faint scraping sound as his scales move over hard pavement. His voice, if he speaks, is a soft hiss.

He's a bit lower powered than some of the characters I've seen.
Explanation of Powers: ======================The Lizard is basically just that, a very large lizard with the abilities which come along with it. This means enhanced strength, speed, claws, a tail, and some regeneration. I've simulated a chameleon ability using images; you may want to substitute invisibility on and activation roll for this.
His ability to simulate death comes from the fact that he has armor covering most of his body which makes vital signs such as a pulse very hard to find. He can also be inhumanly patient and out wait someone trying to determine if he is alive.
Background: ===========George Hackenshaw was a security guard working the late shift for Bio-Gen Research. One evening there was an explosion which leveled Bio-Gen. George was presumed dead although no body was ever found. George was transformed into the Lizard and somehow managed to escape. Sadly, George's body wasn't the only thing to be changed by that night: his memories of his life before have been almost entirely eliminated.
The Lizard's first days in our world were very frightening. The first night he learned not to stay on the streets or let the Others see him. He stuck to the shadows and rooftops to keep Them from hurting him. Feeding off birds, rats, and other small creatures he slowly began to remember small things from his past: mother, warmth, bits of language. One thing he KNEW was that he had been one of Them and now was something else. He began to try and find out more about the Others in order to try and find something better than rooftops and shadows.
The more the Lizard watched the stranger things seemed. By day everyone seemed busy rushing about with no purpose he could see. At night there were fewer people but they seemed more guarded and watchful. He also began to understand more of what they were saying, although it didn't always make much sense to him and his past as one of Them was still unknown. One night he saw something very strange: several of the Others were Hurting another of their kind in much the same way he had been at first. He knew then that it wasn't just his being different that was setting him apart from Them. He took it upon himself to save this Other. At first the Other seemed hesitant, unsure if he was saving them or if It was to be next. When it became clear the the Lizard was not going to harm It, It thanked him (a novelty) and fled.
He knew then what had to be done in order to find a better life than rooftops. The Lizard needed to help the Others who couldn't help themselves. If he could help them, then maybe he would be allowed Inside....
He would typically be found durring the day atop a large building in an out of the way place. He will typically try to find a fairly sunny spot to keep himself warm. At night he decends to street level and lurks about alleyways in the shadows looking for people in danger.
He see other lizards (alligators, etc.) as animals and himself as something above them. He does not hang out with them.
Identifying Quotes: =================="sssstop hurting that one"
"hisss, you mussssst leave"
Tactics: ========The Lizard isn't much on tactics. He will generally run from a fight if he looks outnumbered. Otherwise, he goes after a single opponent until he has disabled them. Normally he will attack hand to hand without resorting to using objects. He will fight each opponent until he feels they will not try to harm him or the person he is protecting. If possible he will try not to kill them, but if they continue he will. If an opponent is slain (or the Lizard *thinks* he is slain) he will take them away from the scene and eat them, but he won't kill someone for food.
The Lizard hates any objects which will cause pain. Anyone wielding a knife or bat he will target first and typically target harshly (ie. use his claws). He doesn't quite understand guns yet. But he hates the loud noise they make and will try and disarm anyone using one.
He is facinated by people in general. He doesn't quite understand what is going on just yet so he spends much of his time watching what people do. As far as like/dislike, he knows that he was once one of them and that they live better than he does. He's a bit jealous of them, so he is trying to find a way to become one of them again. When he does interact directly with them he tries not to scare anyone so he will say just a few things and leave or just leave right away.
Sample Encounter: =================The Victim:
There was no moon that evening. The punks thought they had the city all to themselves to do with as the pleased. I was walking the street late that night. A dumb thing to do but I had no other choice. I saw them and tried to duck into an alleyway before they could see me. True to form, it was a dead end, and even worse they were now blocking the exit.
CLICK
Their leader flicked open his knife.
"Well, Well, Well. What do we have here." snickers
They advanced slowly, wanting to savor the moment I suppose. I was petrified. Like the deer caught in headlights, I couldn't move, couldn't speak. I watched helplessly as they moved forward.
THUD
It had arrived. I don't know what it was. It was huge and had a tail that's about all I could see. They were screaming and blood was flying. Next thing I knew I was alone with what was left of the punks. To tell the truth I never saw it come or go, but I thank my lucky stars it was there that night.
The assailant:
We wuz in our turf minding our own bizness, when along came this stooge. It was a slow night so we thought we'd have some fun. As we's were walking over to 'em, he bolted for an alleyway. Heh, too bad for him it wuz a dead end. We figgered we might as well enjoy ourselves, why hurry things. When from outta nowhere this gigantic thing appeared. None of us even seen it commin. It musta been about ten feet tall, green and scaly. Before I knew what happend three of us were lying on the ground. Geez it wuz fast. I saw it's tail, that's right tail, knock out Butch standing next to me. I figgered I couldn't stop it so I ran. Whatever that thing wuz, it wuzn't human that's for sure!
The Lizard:
FEAR, one of the Others in trouble.
Nice alley, keep in shadows, blend with wall.
The Other has passed, now the bad ones come.
There, right under me, must stop them.
"ssssstop, don't hurt it"
The one with a shiny sharp, stop him. Very bad, must claw It.
Two Others with hard things. Claw them.
Others have stopped. Wait one moving forward. Stop It. Tail won't
hurt it too bad.
The rest run. Good. Stopped the HURT.
Possible Extensions and Campaign Use: =====================================The Lizard was one of the first characters I designed and has sort of been with me ever since in one form or another. When I designed him I was really looking for a different world view so I made him re-learn how to deal with humanity. Unfortunately I've only had a chance to play him as a PC once so I've used him as an NPC.
The Lizard makes a good choice for the classic misunderstood hero scenario. He has a strange view of the world, but is basically a "good guy". You could also use him as a straight villain who is ruthlessly murdering anyone with whom he comes in contact. If you need to supe him up the obvious extensions are more strength and speed or up the killing attack. Another idea is to give him a tracking scent.
As another idea for including the Lizard in your campagin you could have him attack police who are obviously hurting the poor criminals. Some villain could befriend the Lizard. He is really looking for a better life than living out of dumpsters so a villian who figures this out could manipulate the Lizard into doing his bidding. What better bodyguard than someone who wants to keep people from harm? As far as BioGen is concerned, they could have been experimenting with creating enhanced humans. If they find out the Lizard is one of their creations they'd probably want him back to find out what happened. The PC's could befriend the Lizard and try to find out what really happend, just what was Biogen up to that evening.
