By a stroke of luck, our road from the Zagreb to Split passed straight through Plitvice national park. It was late in the autumn, and the park it was filled with yellow and red colors and the clearest water you can imagine. It blew heavily that day, and I fear that visitors coming just a day after us would not be able to see the park in its splendid autumn dress.

I had never heard of Split before I came to Croatia, but on the map it looked like a convenient place to stop. We arrived in the evening, had a long, good dinner. On the way back towards the hotel we passed the old city centre, at that time completely empty with people. Suddenly it was like being on a stage! A stage beautifully representing the old roman empire in all its glory. But it was no stage, it was La Notte In Spalato. |
Dubrovnik, a city filled with old history as well as more recent, darker history. Today it has been totally restored after the shelling of the nineties. Also here the feeling of walking around in the night was remarkable (Mas; you still owe me 100€ after failing to run the stairs of the old town because you did not want to embarras yourself in front of the "person" in the stairways...) |
