Her ser vi stien som går rett forbi Cradle Mountain. Visstnok. Jeg så ikkeno Cradle Mountain, i hvert fall. Flaks jeg hadde vært der dagen før og sett det hele!

Australiere har en forferdelig dårlig retningssans, kanskje. For å unngå at folk skal gå seg helt bort, tåke eller ei, så har de bygd en plankesti gjennom store deler av Overland Track, som er på maaange mil. Fint når man skal over myrområder, men mest plagsomt ellers. Jeg blir bare gående og se på plankene i stedet for utsikten. Som for så vidt ikke var så farlig akkurat her.

 

This is the path that goes past Cradle Mountain, supposedly. I certainly didn't see any Cradle Mountain as I walked here. It's a good thing I had been there the day before and taken it all in.

Now, this is just my theory, but anyway: Australians have no sense of directions. So to avoid losing too many people in the wilderness, foggy or not, they've built a boardwalk along large parts of the whole Overland Track. That's a looong way. It's a good thing when you have to cross moors, but just a hassle elsewhere. I keep staring at the boards instead of enjoying the view. Which didn't matter much right here, to be fair.
