Dette er en impala. De ser vi tusenvis av på enhver safari mellom Kenya og Sør-Afrika, men de er så vanlige at de fort blir usynlige. Det er synd, for det er fine og fascinerende dyr. De har for eksempel McDonald's-logoen på rumpa, en usedvanlig synlig svart M i pelsen. Den mørke fargen der gjør at den delen av rumpa blir varmere enn resten, og flått som prøver å finne veien til nærmeste og varmeste kroppshulrom lar seg villig avlede av det trikset. Rare greier.

This is an impala. On any safari between Kenya and South Africa you will see thousands of them spread out all over, and for that reason they quickly become nearly invisible and ignored. That's a pity, because they are beautiful and fascinating animals.

One example: They all have a large, black McDonald's logo on their butt. The dark fur is warmer than the surrounding white one, and this makes ticks searching for the warmest and most vulnerable part of the body go astray. It's a cheap, but efficient trick.
