The natives in the Chiapas region are not always very friendly towards visitors. Or put another way, they seem to have a religion with rules that make them slightly hostile towards tourists. For instance, they have that "truth" that if someone's photo is taken, that will damage his or her soul. So if you wave a camera around in the wrong village, you'll soon have a broken camera.

This little boy was in the wrong village, but since he had just been sponsored with the biggest ice-cream in town, it was almost possible to take his photo without damaging his soul. He just had to put a hand slightly in the way.

In retrospect, I can see that it is quite possible that the photo did not hurt him, but his teeth indicate that maybe he shouldn't have eaten that ice-cream afterall?
