Nærheten til Armenia og stor militær tilstedeværelse preger nok byen Kars litt. Du ser det kanskje ikke så godt, men han ene her peker på fotografen med en pistol. Etterpå brukte vi et kvarter på å fotografere dem i forskjellige varianter av at Mehmet henretter Kemal, Kemal henretter Hasan, Hasan skyter Mustafa i bakhodet, og så videre. Men de smilte og lo hele tiden.

Og det var altså ikke min idé.

Having Armenia nearby and a large military base in town may have altered the Kars mentality slightly. You may not see it very well, but one of the boys is pointing a gun at the photographer. Afterwards we spent a while photographing Mehmet killing Kemal, Kemal executing Hasan, Hasan shooting Mustafa in the back of his head, and so on. But they were smiling and laughing all the while, especially when they got to see the photographs with themselves holding the gun.
