Necromancer Fashion:

The fashion of necromancers tends to be a rarely discussed topic, mostly due to their rarity and the fairly low survival rate of those who do encounter the elusive puppet masters of the undead. However, there is still some knowledge on the various articles of clothing and accessories necromancers wear, both for magical and non-magical purposes.

Main clothing: Most necromancers tend to go through 2 major clothing stages. Those early in their studies tend to dress as inconspicuously as possible, both to avoid detection by their enemies, but also to avoid drawing the ire of any dangerous forces lurking between life and death. It is believed that the experience of necromancy is highly stressful on the nerves of the affected creatures and as such, bright and attention seeking clothing is usually avoided.

However, after reaching a certain power level, necromancers tend to transition to the rarer full gray robes. These dresses, which tend to be very covering as well as somewhat drab, are usually fashioned to be an all-purpose clothing as well as being somewhat inconspicuous. These long dress-cloaks tend to be considerably more complex and magical than the design lets on, filled with both magical lanes of power as well as various necromantic and soul-powered energies. These usually only manifest in the mortal plane when necromancers perform magic, the increased focus and energy of the robes giving greater power than the necromancer alone. However, in The Gray Place, the realm between life and death, as well as in the death realms, the robes take on dramatically different colors, usually a blinding display of colors as bright and varied as the dragons themselves. These properties are poorly understood outside of necromancer circles but are believed to be linked to the spirit of death imbued in the dress, allowing it to live where all else is dead.

Although the traditional necromancer robes were based on the old elven tradition of garbs for the dead, which were usually nearly full-covering, newer designs have started to emerge as the necromantic art has seen a resurgence. Mimicking various fashion trends in the Warring Kingdoms, various collections of high-necked, tight-dressed or pompadoured cuts have become more common, although the traditional cut is still the most popular by a solid margin.
