The Dragon’s Shadow is an ancient monastery established in Zonten. Focused entirely on the task of slaying Dragons which have proven themselves either a threat or a nuisance to society the monastery is filled with men and women of terrifying skill. Whenever there is a draconic presence somewhere, the populace sends for the monastery which dispatches an appropriate squad or person to deal with it. They have a highly impressive 80% success rate and always get rid of a dragon threat within 3 months, even if not always being capable of killing it. Afterwards the monastery collect their payment, typically in the form of around 1-2 newly born babies and whatever wealth there is to amass at the location. Due to the high threat and prevalence of Dragons in Kairn the monastery is highly respected and feared for their skills, yet often disliked for their general lack of altruism. Their members tend to become respected mages, commanders, veterans or specialists after their service at the monastery is over and compose a notable part of Zonten’s specialist army.

Their organisation is based in the huge, ancient monastery on Dragon's Fang.

The dragon's shadow employs 5 different ranks to differentiate its active members, in addition to another unofficial rank for members who have yet to kill a dragon and as such do not qualify for ranks.

(0) - Initiate

   No privileges, typically given right to lodging.

1 - Novices

   10 g payment per month. 
   Access to up to 20 gp of extra equipment on missions. 

2 - Journeyman

   50 g payment per month. 
   Access to up to 200 gp of extra equipment on missions. 
   Ability for loans. 
   Right to personal room. 

3 - Expert

   100 g payment per month. 
   Access to up to 500 gp of extra equipment on missions. 
   Right to 1 magic item every 4 DKP or every 2 years, whichever is shorter. 
   Expected to mentor at least 1 student personally. Can not be commanded to do servant tasks,

4 - Master

   250 gp payment per month. 
   Access to up to 2000 gp of extra equipment on missions. 
   Right to 1 high quality magic item every 6 DKP or every 3 years, whichever is shorter. 
   Expected to mentor at least 5 students. Access to restricted section of monastery. 
   Right to call on the senior council. 
   Qualified for the senior council when one of the older members pass away.

5 - Supreme

   Current responsible or previously responsible for the Dragon's Shadow. 
   Current Supreme is Zepheriel.
